A so-called fleur de lis tile, a tile with French lilies, painted in blue.
The paint on the tile is very thick, one can really feel the decoration.
In this period the French lily was not directly related to the French but was more likely to be a symbolic ornament for Mary, mother of Jesus. Through time the Madonna is often depicted with or symbolic as a lily.
Beautiful strong image.
