The Netherlands
Circa 1630 – 1650
On this Dutch tin-glazed tile, painted in cobalt blue, is depicted the portrait of Frederik de Vries, the son of Dirck de Vries, a student of Hendrick Goltzius. Frederik is depicted as a putto, climbing on a dog with a dove in his hand. The image was painted after an engraving of Hendrick Goltzius from 1631. Under the original image is a text about the simplicity of the child and the loyalty of the dog, which perfectly reflects the image depicted on the tile.
Painted and with so-called oxheads as corner decoration.
The tile is in wonderful condition, with normal wear as can be expected for its age.
