Important Large Birth Glass

A large and unusual Dutch engraved moulded stem wine glass, with a pointed round funnel bowl with a solid base enclosing a tear, decorated with a continuous scene of the festive moment after the birth of the child. On a paved floor, the mother is seated in the middle of three ladies, on the left, we can see two ladies, maids, bathing the child. On the right, we see one maid folding linen and another rocking the cradle. Possibly, the mother had twins! On the other side, we can see the father receive congratulations from a couple. This all above a knob, above a six-sided pedestal stem applied with diamonds on the shoulder, over a folded foot.

This glass is of exceptional size, possibly because the glass suggests twins! The glass is 22.2cm (8.74”) high, and the cup is 10cm (3.93”) wide! Also, the inscription is unique: DE GESONDHEYDT VAN DE KRAAM HEER EN KRAAM VROU: On the good health of the father and the mother. Normally, on a glass, only the mother is celebrated and not so much the father.

In excellent condition with the normal wear underneath the foot rim.
