The Netherlands
Circa 1620 – 1640
A polychrome Dutch tile with the decoration of a Turk’s Cap Lily.
Collectors know these tiles as Collaert tiles, as most of the depicted flowers and birds are painted after engravings of Adriaen Collaert.
A typical detail for these tiles is their bright colour, and they are always painted in blue, green, orange, and/or purple.
This bird is probably the bird on the right of the engraving, named Acanthis.
As corner decoration, we see oxheads, with in the far corners, always three strips.
The tile is in good condition, with a restoration to the top left corner and a retouched superficial chip down left. Further with the normal superficial wear and small chips according to age.
The engraving is in the collection of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam.
