Circa 1735

A spectacular German faience plate with armorial decoration. This plate was made in the German city of Bayreuth, circa 1735. Decorated in gold on a blackish-brown ground, we see a fine painted crowned coat of arms of three French lilies. The arms are flanked by two lions, on a baroque base. This all is surrounded by garlands with fruits and flowers growing from ‘Greenman’ masks.

It is extremely rare to find a piece of Bayreuth with this quality of decoration and with the gilding in such good condition.

The reverse of the plate is marked J.A.F.
