Engraving: Dutch
Circa 1740

A Dutch engraved elegant baluster wine glass, with a pointed round funnel bowl, decorated with a fishing cupid and a three-master sailing ship between tulips and flowers, and a crowned family crest. The engraving is of exceptionally fine quality.

Inscribed AL MET DER TYD: The phrase suggests that it is important to set aside time for personal growth in life. It also serves as a poetic reference to the cyclical nature of life by the sea, where the waves never cease, yet the seasons change. The cupid and the ship may symbolize that with time, love and prosperity will come when one sets one’s mind to it.

It is in very good condition with only a small fleabite from the top rim. Further, with the normal wear underneath the foot rim.
